Course Description
Athletics 0757 - 7th grade | 8505 - 8th grade
This course will include instruction for boys in the sport of football, basketball, and track. Instruction for girls will be in volleyball, basketball, and track. Basic motor skills will be taught, as well as higher forms of physical skills that are required of athletes. A high degree of physical and cardiovascular fitness will be emphasized. Emphasis will also be placed on teaching good sportsmanship and developing a respect for other athletes and coaches in order to insure a quality educational experience.

Boys Athletic FAQs
1. Does an athlete have to participate in every sport in order to be in Athletic Period?
No. The athlete must participate in two of the three major sports football, basketball, and track (one which must be football due to staffing restraints) and abide by all guidelines set in accordance to the Tex Hill MS Boys Athletic Policy and UIL Guidelines.
2. May a student participate in basketball and track if he is not in the Athletic Period?
Yes. All students are welcomed to participate in any sport even if they are not enrolled in the Athletic Period.
3. When are practices held for the different sports?
Both 7th and 8th grade football practices are held after school. Only the 7th grade A and B Team Basketball teams practice before school. 8th grade A and B Team Basketball teams practice after school. Both 7th grade and 8th grade C Team basketball teams practice twice a week after school. All track, tennis, and golf practices are held after school.
4. What paperwork is required for an athlete to participate in sports at Tex Hill MS?
A current athletic physical must be on file with the coaching staff prior to an athlete participating in any sport. The athletic physical is good for one calendar year from the time of the examination. Also, athletes and parents are required to sign the Tex Hill Athletic Policy Acknowledgment Form and complete the mandatory NEISD Participation Forms online using the Rank One system.
5. May 7th and 8th grade students attend Summer Camps?
Yes. Tex Hill MS conducts a Strength and Conditioning Camp throughout the summer and Johnson HS conducts sports camps for all UIL sports. The Tex Hill MS Coaching Staff will send out information to the athletes and community as the summer nears.
6. May a student in the 7th grade who has reached his/her fourteenth birthday on or before September 1 play on an 8th grade team?
Yes. The student may play on the 8th grade team provided he is eligible under all state laws and academic standards and has not reached his 15th birthday on or before September 1.
