F.A.Q.
1. What is the difference between Spanish 1A, Spanish 1B and Spanish 1?
All of these classes are taught at the novice level. Spanish 1A (.5 credit) and Spanish 1B (.5 credit) need to be taken consecutively their 7th and 8th grade years at Tex-Hill in order to receive a full credit. During each year, if the students successfully completes the course, they will earn Half a World Language credit. At the end of the two years, they would have earned 1 Full Credit. Spanish 1 is taken during the student’s 8th grade. This class is a combination of Spanish 1A and Spanish 1B and runs at a faster speed than Spanish 1A and Spanish 1B since it needs to cover more information in one year instead of two. After successfully finishing the school year, the student will earn 1 High school World Language Credit.
2. If my son/daughter speaks Spanish, can they take Spanish at Tex-Hill to practice or work on their grammar?
No. Spanish IA, Spanish 1B and Spanish 1F are designed to be taken by non-native Speakers. Students that are native speakers should not be taking Spanish at Tex-Hill as it taught at a “Novice” level.
3. How many credits will my son/daughter earn by taking Spanish at Tex-Hill?
By taking Spanish 1A 7th grade (.5 credit) and Spanish 1B in 8th grade (.5 credit), students will earn 1 High school World Language credit.
4. How many credits of a World Language credit does my son/daughter need in order to graduate from high school? Are these enough for college admissions?
Currently, students need 2 Credits of a World Language in order to meet the requirements for a High school diploma. These requirements may change as your child reaches high school. Please check with their high school counselor. Although the requirements for high school are only two full credits of a World Language, many colleges and universities require more credits for college admittance, especially when there is very high competitive admittance. If the student has a college or colleges of their choice, it is suggested that they research those college/university admittance requirements.
5. If my son/daughter does not successfully pass Spanish 1A, Spanish 1B or Spanish 1F, will that affect their high school GPA?
Taking Spanish 1A, Spanish 1B and Spanish 1 at Tex-Hill and not successfully passing the high school credit, the Failure will show on their high school transcripts because it is a high school level class. It will show that they attempted the class at the middle school and they failed to obtain credit. This is so for College Transcripts. The GPA will not affect at the high school level. If there is no credit earned at the middle school level due to failure, the credit will not be earned but it will not affect the high school GPA in any form.
